The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a communal process designed to educate adults in the Catholic faith. The members of the RCIA process are :
non-Catholics who want to learn about Catholicism;
non-Catholics who want to become Catholics;
non-Catholics who want to marry Catholics and become Catholic;
non-Catholics who are married to Catholics who want to become Catholic;
Catholics who have not been catechized and;
Catholics who want to refresh their knowledge of their Catholic faith.
These candidates solicit sponsors to journey with them on their faith journey.
The Process: RCIA begins with an Inquiry stage, moves through the Catechumenate stage where one is being catechized in the faith, and then one enters into the stage of preparation / purification to help focus / intensify one’s faith to make a decision to enter the Church.
The Initiation into the faith occurs on Holy Saturday night when the adults enter the Church and the sacraments are received.
